Outstanding EMS Agency of Year 2012

May 9th, 2012 - Wintergreen Property Owners Volunteer Rescue Squad was honored with the Thomas Jefferson Emergency Medical Service Regional Award for Outstanding EMS Agency of the Year 2012.

Areas highlighted that made this nomination successful were mention of our service to our community.  Wintergreen Rescue Squad provides Emergency Medical Services to the citizens of Wintergreen Resort 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and 365 days of the year.  Recently, in 2006 Wintergreen began providing services to citizens of all of Nelson through a contract with Nelson County.  Thus, the “County Crew” was created.

Other services mentioned were our Healthy 12-Lead program, Blood Pressure Checks, Durable Medical Supplies available to Wintergreen Property Owners, and the Project Lifesaver program.  Our goal with these programs and the patient care we provide is excellent customer service.

Wintergreen makes an effort to provide training for EMS providers and Firefighters of Nelson County.   Some of the training we provide is Firefighter I & II, Vehicle/Farm Machinery Extrication, CPR, EVOC, Rope Rescue, and much more.

Volunteer training coordinator, Martha Misker

We have also made it a point to provide our volunteers and in-turn our residents of Wintergreen and Nelson County with some of the most up-to-date equipment available.  We are currently using Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) for Respiratory Emergencies and the Autopulse for cardiac emergencies.

The picture shown to the right is our volunteer training coordinator, Martha Misker whom is accepting the award.   Martha is a retired nurse who volunteers with Wintergreen as an EMT-Intermediate.  She like many others is one of our dedicated volunteers. The gentlemen to Martha's left is Stephen Rea, TJEMS Executive Director.  If you would like to volunteer with Wintergreen or are interested in additional information please contact us.

Thanks to all of the Wintergreen Rescue Volunteers for making this achievement possible!
