NewsRavens Roost Technical RescueSeptember 1, 2008 - At 18:00 Hours Augusta County EOC dispatched Wintergreen Fire/Rescue, and Waynesboro Rescue Squad for an injured climber at the Raven's Roost Overlook. The patient was reported to be unresponsive and to have fallen 40 to 60 ft. Wintergreen Fire and Rescue responded within minutes. Units arrived on scene at 18:17. Augusta County units arrived a few minutes later. A rapid set up of rigging and safety lines of 200 ft were set. Patient contact was safely made and patient packaged within twenty minutes from arrival on scene. The team extracted the patient from 60-70 feet below grade and around obstacles. Air Care 5 transported the patient within 1hour and twenty minutes from first unit on scene. Units on scene were Wintergreen Chief 1, Engine 2, Medic 177, Squad 176, Montebello Fire and Rescue, PHI’s Air Care 5 helicopter, Waynesboro rescue with 2 squads and a medic unit. Wintergreen Fire And Rescue Responds To DrowningJuly 12, 2008 - Wintergreen Rescue was dispatched to the Sherando Lake Recreation Area in Augusta County for a possible drowning. Resources from over ten agencies responded and assisted with recovery efforts. 4 boats, 3 ambulances, 1 light squad, 1 squad/command unit, 1 dedicated command unit, 2 dive units, 2 support vehicles, 1 brush truck, 1 utility vehicle, 2 administrative vehicles responded and arrived on scene. Personnel searched approximately six hours with efforts culminating in the unfortunate outcome of a body recovery. Area fire and rescue department auxiliary personnel assisted with feeding extensive manpower on scene. Wintergreen Truck 1 Delivered!July 1, 2008 - Wintergreen Volunteer Fire Department has taken delivery of our new 95' Sutphen aerial truck. This completes the multiple year project of planning and construction. Staff and volunteer training is proceeding, and after mounting tools, stocking equipment and installation of radios, it is planned to be placed in service later this summer. New Photographs of Truck 1 Construction PostedJune 5, 2008 - *UPDATED* New photos of Wintergreen Fire Department's new Sutphen 95' Arial Tower Truck in it's final stages of construction have been posted. The truck is scheduled for delivery at the end of June 2008, and will provide enhanced fire supression, extinguishment and rescue capabilities for the residents of Wintergreen and surrounding communities. Residential Structure Fire At WintergreenJune 4, 2008 - Wintergreen Fire And Rescue personnel responded early Tuesday morning to a reported residential structure fire in the Wintergreen Mountain community. The initial report was called in by an observant Wintergreen Police Officer, who saw the smoke from across the resort complex. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire through the roof on the unoccupied two story structure. Quick response and an aggressive initial attack limited the fire damage, although there was heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the building. 20 firefighters from Wintergreen, Rockfish, Faber and Wilson fire departments were involved in the fire supression, with assistance from the Wintergreen Property Owners Volunteer Rescue Squad, Wintergreen Police Deparment, Wintergreen Property Owners Landscaping Department, and a Nelson County EMS crew.
