Wise County Outreach
Aug 3, 2015 - For the fifth consecutive year, Wintergreen Rescue is proud to have participated in the outreach medicine project in rural Wise County VA. Wise County is deep in the coal mine country of Southwest VA and many residents don’t have access to healthcare. With five state capitals closer to Wise than their own, citizens in that region often fall through the cracks.
Remote Area Medical USA coordinates a mammoth free-medicine event each July of which the University of Virginia is a major sponsor. The Thomas Jefferson EMS Council “Task Force 2” deploys to support logistics and on-site critical care in conjunction with UVA Emergency Physicians. Wintergreen Rescue is a part of Task Force 2.
Each year we send one ambulance, one transport ATV, and one medic to be a part of the 5 day deployment. Thanks to Leza Sisley for making the trip this year and enduring the 18-hour work shifts. Thousands of citizens from all over the Country traveled to Wise County for the opportunity to receive free health care.
