Dick Gilliland
It's with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dick Gilliland, lifetime volunteer of Wintergreen Rescue Squad. Dick was a very devoted husband, father, and lifelong civil servant. Most notably, Dick was a Brigadier General in the United States Marine Corps.
Dick was instrumental in the rebirth of Wintergreen Rescue in 1996 and steered the organization as its President for many years. It takes a very solid leader to step back and let others lead. Dick did that.
Over the past few years Dick has battled Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This morning he succumbed to complications, and now he rests. Dick would have turned 80 next month.
There will be a celebration of Dick's life later in the year. The Gilliland family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to the Wintergreen Volunteer Rescue Squad.
