Wood Pile Fire in Nelson County

May 27, 2016 - Wintergreen was toned for a county-wide request for tankers. Arriving on scene to find a large pile wood on fire at a lumber yard in Lovinginston. Lovingston tanker 12, Lovingston engine 10 and Piney River FD Brush 24 on scene were already on scene.

The fire was worked for approx 5 hrs to contain the spread. Units on scene were Wintergreen Tanker 2, Lovingston tanker 12, Lovingston Engine 10 and Piney River FD Brush 24, Piney River FD Tanker 26, Gladstone Engine 40, Gladstone Tanker 42, Rockfish Tanker 53, Amherst Co Engine 3, Pedlar Fire Tanker 1, Monelison FD Tanker 1, Monelison Engine 2, Amherst Co Public Safty Unit 800, Roseland Rescue 129, VA Dept of Forestry Dozer and Wintergreen Medic 29. 2 drop tanks were used in the shuttle of water from the Colleen area. No injuries were sustained on the incident. All agencies worked hard to keep fire contained, and Chief 11 of Lovingston was in command.
