Wrapping up the special vaccine clinics

"There is now a good chance we will have a few Johnson & Johnson one-and-done doses available at our last clinic on May 27th, says the Wintergreen Fire & Rescue Chief Curtis Sheets. Email vaccine@wtgfireresq.org if you are interested.

As noted in a newsletter to the community, new pop-up clinics and emails with wrong information confused some locals about getting the jabs they need.

"The state’s automated system had been sending out emails telling folks they can’t get their scheduled second-doses at the Tuckahoe Clubhouse. This is not correct. If you got your first dose from us, you can get your second dose from us. Ignore all of the automated emails and simply show up at Tuckahoe for your second dose,” reports Sheets.

The facts now:
• The second-dose appointments for those who got their first jab at Tuckahoe Clubhouse remain unchanged. The clinic will be open on May 13 for the second dose of Pfizer. It will be open on May 27 for the second dose of Moderna.

• If you miss your scheduled second-dose appointment, email
vaccine@wtgfireresq.org or call the WTG vaccine hotline at 434-263-3333. ("Anyone with any questions about our clinics can use that email or phone number," Chief Sheets says.)

• The Blue Ridge Health District has a new appointment system, go HERE, to schedule an appointment at one of their COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Nelson County and Charlottesville. Call their hotline at 434-972-6261 for details or assistance. The Johnson & Johnson "one & done" vaccines are available in addition to Moderna and Pfizer.

Also, the online service offering a list of area pharmacies offering the vaccines is reportedly working well; just enter your zip code on the website vaccinefinder.org.

"Our Nellysford clinic at Tuckahoe Clubhouse has had a good run," concludes Sheets. "Some 1,000 people have been vaccinated in Nellysford.

“It was our goal to help with the initial peak demand and we have done that. It’s time for us to get back to work training and preparing for fire and rescue emergencies.

"It’s also time to give the community their building back. Huge thanks go out to all who volunteered at these clinics as well as all of the various groups who would have typically been using the building on Thursdays," Sheets says.
