Cedar Meadow Drive - Structure Fire
Wintergreen Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in our Stoney Creek community. Captain Tim McCray upgraded the call to a "working incident" as soon as he pulled out of the station because he could see the column of smoke.
Upon arrival moderate fire was showing from the second story of a two-story residential dwelling which was occupied at the time of the fire. All occupants evacuated safely. As luck would have it, Wintergreen Fire - Rescue staff were handling two EMS incidents when the fire call was dispatched. This did present a staffing challenge. Wintergreen Fire Department volunteers and several off-duty staff responded immediately, as did Piney River Fire Department and Rockfish Fire Department.
The structure sustained moderate damage, however is certainly repairable. One firefighter was transported to UVA for heat exhaustion.
